Here are Some Top Fabrics for Gymwear

Are you a gym rat who is looking for the best gear to help you achieve your fitness goals? Did you recently build a home gym for your family and want to make sure you have the best workout gear to boot? Are thinking of starting a trendy fashion line of athleisure wear?

Here are Some Top Fabrics for Gymwear

Regardless of your motivation, if you’re looking for some of the best fabrics for gym clothes, here’s a useful guide.

Bamboo

Bamboo viscose is made from the cellulose found in bamboo plants. The plants are cut and soaked in a chemical solution, which breaks down the cellulose into a pulp. This pulp is then extruded through tiny holes to create long strands of bamboo viscose fiber.

Bamboo fabric is extremely soft and has a silky feel. It is also very absorbent, making it a good choice for workout clothes. Bamboo fabric is also hypoallergenic, making it a good choice for people with sensitive skin.

However, bamboo fabric is not the cheapest option.

Nylon

Nylon is a synthetic fabric made from polymers. These polymers are long chains of molecules that are bonded together. Nylon fabric is created by extruding these polymers through tiny holes to create long strands of nylon fiber.

Nylon is a very strong and durable fabric. It is typically resistant to abrasion, tears, and mildew. Nylon is also quick-drying and has excellent moisture-wicking properties, making it a great choice for gym wear.

However, nylon can be uncomfortable to wear in hot weather as it’s not the most breathable fabric.

Spandex

Spandex is a synthetic elastomer. It’s made from polyurethane, which is a polymer that consists of repeating units of urethane.

Thus, one of the biggest benefits of spandex is that it’s extremely stretchy which makes it a good choice for activewear.

However, spandex can be expensive, and it’s not as sustainable as some other fabrics. It also has a tendency to pill or form little balls of fuzz on the surface of the fabric.

Cotton

Cotton is a natural fabric made from the fibers of -you guessed it- the cotton plant. The plant’s seeds are surrounded by a fluffy white material called the “cotton boll.” The bolls are harvested and the fibers are separated from the seed. The fibers are then spun into yarn, which is then woven into cotton fabric.

Cotton is famously absorbent and breathable, so it pulls sweat away from your skin to keep you dry during your workout. Cotton is also hypoallergenic, making it a good choice for people with sensitive skin.

However, cotton can hold on to odors, and shrinkage is also a possibility.

The benefits of working out in different types of gym clothes will depend on the type of workout you are doing and your personal preferences. For example, if you are doing a high-intensity workout, you may want to choose a fabric that wicks moisture away from your skin. If you are doing a low-intensity workout, you may be more concerned with comfort and breathability. Ultimately, the best fabric for your gym clothes will be the one that you are most comfortable in.
