Cyber Security How Businesses can protect themselves from Modern day crime

Security How Businesses can protect themselves from Modern day crime.

Security is a critical for businesses and an increasing concern for businesses around the world. Cyber Security and Big Data Scoring What to do when the Annual Cost of Fraud for the UK is over GBP 193 billion and worldwide is bigger. An article

Cyber Security and Big Data Scoring – What to do when Annual Cost of Fraud for UK is over GBP193bn

overviews the subject in more detail.

  • Nearly seven out of the ten attacks on all firms involved viruses, spyware or malware.
  • There is a record £1.9bn government investment to protect in the UK but businesses and industries must act to help protect themselves
  • Global new National Cyber Security Centre are launching to tackle the subject

Global businesses are being urged to secure and better protect themselves from cyber criminals after international government research into cyber security keeps on find that two thirds of large businesses experienced a cyber breach or attack in the past year.

Business and financial fraud is up by more than 25% in the UK and other big cyber issues are proliferating worldwide and affecting business, companies, banks and financial organisations. The annual cost of fraud costing in the UK alone is £193 bn per year. This one of the top concerns for executives. It is therefore essential that businesses, banks and fintech companies lead the charge in fighting cybercrime.

UK businesses are particular sensitive to these issues and trying to understand how navigate in these subjects. Some data about the subject:

  • Britons aged between 55 and 64 are the most concerned about crime
  • Figures show that overall crime rates are actually falling
  • 1 in 4 people have taken matters into their own hands by installing CCTV

This is according to research conducted by security systems specialists

Expert Security UK

, who found that despite a statistical drop in crime in recent years, many people are increasingly worried.

Why are we more afraid?

Danny Scholfield, Sales and Marketing Director at Expert Security UK, offered one theory as to why so many people are more concerned about becoming a victim of crime than they were 10 years ago.

“Increased media exposure certainly has a big part to play. The rapid emergence of social media has resulted in 24/7 reporting, with the impacts of crime being amplified,”

 he commented.

“Not so long ago, certain crimes would have gone unreported or would have flown under the radar because of a lack of media coverage. In 2016, everyone has smartphones and are able to report on developing situations live. While this is a good thing on the one hand, it does make it seem like more crimes are happening, whereas the statistics suggest otherwise.”

Are businesses adequately protected?

Danny Scholfield believes that businesses equally shouldn’t bury their heads in the sand.

“There’s no harm in being prepared. For a lot of business owners, terror-proofing is a relatively new concept and so it’s understandable that they’re not sure of exactly what they need to do to protect themselves. That’s why we created a handy guide to give these people a solid starting point.”

Remember – security measures and procedures that work for one business might not be right for you.

Nevertheless, this guide to terror protection will certainly set you off in the right direction.
