Alexandre de Rosa, Founder And Chairman of WMF Energy Discusses Sustainable Forest Management With Dinis Guarda

Dinis Guarda interviews Alexandre da Rosa, Founder & Chairman of WMF Energy, an environmental remediation company, in the latest episode of his YouTube podcast series. They talk about the Sustainable Forest Management and circular economy aspect in the Amazon Rainforest. The podcast is powered by Businessabc.net and citiesabc.com.

Alexandre de Rosa, Founder And Chairman of WMF Energy Discusses Sustainable Forest Management With Dinis Guarda

Alexandre da Rosa is a global award-winning executive, entrepreneur and researcher with over 30 years of experience in data centers, sustainability, clean and renewable energy, sustainable forest management, biotechnology, food and water security, and carbon offsets. During the early part of his career, he worked with many of the leading FTSE 100 / Fortune 500 companies responsible for designing and building over 50 data centers worldwide.

It was then, he told Dinis, that he observed the great emission of heat and energy consumption and realised the huge impact on the environment.

“When we interfere with the environment and its functioning, we change it. Our behaviour of consumption or waste generation impacts the environment and changes it”, he said during the interview.

IHe started research and invested in the development of new technological solutions for compensation and minimisation of impacts by founding WMF Energy. The environmental remediation company facilitates conscious and scientifically advanced care of forests, generation of clean energy and the transformation of waste into clean energy or reusable and sustainable fuels.

“We need to be open to exchange and understand together about how we can make this simpler for others to understand. It’s time we establish short dialogue or conversation on how we can help to solve the problem.”

WMF is one of the top ten private rainforest landholders, with extensive areas for nature conservation projects and large projects with local people to generate wealth and knowledge. The company has major impact specifically in Amazon Rainforest, the largest tropical forest in the world with millions of species of plants and animals.

The impact of WMF Energy in Sustainable Forest Management

Deforestation is one of the main sources of greenhouse gas emissions, especially carbon dioxide (CO?). According to estimates by the International Union

for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), deforestation and forest degradation account for about 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions.

The rate of deforestation varies from year to year and from region to region, but on average, the world loses about 7 million hectares of forest per year. This is equivalent to an

annual emission of about 1.5 to 2 billion tons of CO? into the atmosphere. In addition to CO?, deforestation also releases other greenhouse gases, such as methane and nitrous oxide, which further increases the impact on global warming.

During the interview, Alexandre told Dinis that WMF engages itself in the protection of non-threatened forests or those threatened with invasion for deforestation, as well as the recovery of forests transformed into pastures that belong to the organisation’s private areas or those of its project partner clients.

“Our focus is on promoting forest balance through our presence with Sustainable Forest Management Plans with Carbon Capture and Sequestration, meeting human needs, preserving biodiversity and ecological functioning, and mitigating the negative effects of climate change. It is essential to ensure the health and integrity of forests, as forests are an important source of carbon and contribute to the regulation of the global climate”, he said.

How WMF Energy facilitates in ensuring clean energy and carbon credits

The development of clean energy sources is of utmost importance for a sustainable future, today the energy sector is responsible for more than 70% of all greenhouse gas emissions. Being the largest contributor to global warming, encompassing transportation, electricity and heat generation, buildings, manufacturing and construction, fugitive emissions, and other fuel burning.

Despite the growth in the use of renewable sources across the planet, we have seen in recent years record global CO2 emissions from the use of coal plants and natural gases from the global economic recovery from the covid crisis was not sustainable, added to the war in Ukraine with a shortage of natural gas for Europe. Thus, the geopolitical scenario has an extreme influence on the energy generation of the largest global powers, which is the most strategic commodity on the planet for business.

“WMF has a team of scientists and researchers specialised in the development of clean energy, that is, the generation of energy using renewable sources with low or no emission of polluting gases into the atmosphere, with minimal damage to nature, such as solar energy, wind energy, hydro energy and from hydrogen”, Alexandre told Dinis.

He also explained that WMF facilitates numerous projects in the area to earn carbon credits. He presented the use case where WMF developed several hydroelectric plants spread throughout Brazil, and with several agreements for the development of green hydrogen plants interconnected to the hydroelectric park.

“In my opinion, carbon credits is an instrument to incentivize good projects that use science, not aggressively against our planet but to keep it safe, while connecting the dots like social education, clean air production, climate change balance, clean water production, etc”, he said.
