What are the advantages of VOIP and SIP calls to a business?

Every business is looking to cut costs and if your telephone systems are letting you down, or your bills are sky high, perhaps a modern upgrade is required. You do not have to be weighed down by antiquated systems, as modern digital technology brings inexpensive, fast and flexible telecommunications. We look at how making calls via the Internet can slash your expenditure, revitalise your working practices and give you and your employees’ flexibility on the go. Win win!

VoIP (Voice over Initiation Protocol)

One option is a VoIP (Voice over Initiation Protocol) system that allows telephone calls to be made over the Internet. Rather than pay for lines to be connected through a public exchange, VoIP sends tiny identifiable ‘packets’ of data from your phone, which are reassembled by your recipient’s VoIP phone to provide information, i.e. your voice. No more network charges, low or zero call rates and your business projects a professional image. Having a single supplier improves efficiency. Your office computer systems can be linked to VoiP, useful for when your business grows. VoIP does away with hardware issues like purchasing extra and often unused phone lines, so you just pay for what you use. It is more flexible than a standard phone system, as a hosted VoIP portal allows you to reconfigure the system according to your needs. Someone leaves; give their line to someone else. Even if the new person works across the globe. Cast away that off-the-peg telephone system that no longer does the job and slip into something more practical and economical. Switch to VoIP and enjoy a personalised, lean network that is tailored to your business needs.

There is more.

SIP (Session Initiation Protocol)

Yes, more protocols. These are just the ground rules that define how computing devices talk to each other. SIP (or SIP trunking) does what it says on its tin, initiating and also terminating each communication. It enables VoIP and works within it. Sending packets of data in the same way, SIP has different capabilities. It allows for voice calls, video conferencing, media distribution and instant messaging, along with other applications. So if you’re thinking ‘Should I install a VoIP Phone System?’, consider SIP trunks first, to decide which best meets your business needs.  The cost savings to your business could be significant and SIP trunking could become a big asset to your communications. You would be able to monitor call usage and do away with expensive international calls. Like VoIP, you would not be shackled by the cumbersome demands of traditional telephone hardware. Maintenance costs also disappear, as there would be no need to maintain your IP and analog infrastructure. However, the cloud-based software deployed by SIP allows you to keep both your traditional PBX system and your existing handsets, should you wish. With VoIP and SIP trunk calling, flexibility becomes your watchword and that saves money.
